Our recent production, ALL THE OXYTOCIN IN YOUR FINGERTIPS by Cary Simowitz, was a journey into uncharted territory for me. I knew about Deaf West Theatre's Deaf/Hearing inclusive productions, and though I lauded their endeavors, the logistics of it seemed daunting. 

Now that OXYTOCIN has been successfully staged, I have a better understanding of the undertaking, and of our audience. The feedback from one of our Deaf audience members particularly resonated: 

"I have never gone to a play where I truly enjoyed the whole thing. No looking off to the side at the interpreter and missing the action on the stage, etc. We need more of these kinds of plays accessible to both Deaf and Hearing."

That is where the journey took me, and this is where it continues. We will keep exploring Deaf/Hearing inclusive theatre with this year's production, Cary Simowitz' A WOLF'S MOTHER, and my intention is to keep the momentum going, by creating more Deaf/Hearing inclusive productions for years to come.
