Growing up in farmland, Wisconsin, Derek was interested in theatre at an early age, and has explored its various forms of expression ever since.

After college, he continued his stage experience in Chicago theatre, and explored film in Los Angeles, where he landed roles in many independent films.

He continued exploring theatre in Los Angeles area, including Santa Monica and Long Beach, where he was resident artist at Panndora Productions for several years, expanding his abilities to include directing and producing.

Derek continues with a global approach to producing theatre, staying open to opportunity and community, wherever the location is. Offstage, Derek is happily married, enjoys homelife with his cats and dogs, and working in the garden, pulling weeds and watching things grow.
